Part of our vision is
Nurture • Where your child will be known and where there will be a strong sense of partnership between child, home, school and community.
The aspirations and expectations of parents and carers are the foundations upon which Chichester Free School is to be established. Development of effective communication and relationships with parents and carers is therefore vital if the school is to work in unison with its Trust, families and community.
The school will work towards this through –
- Establishing a ‘Friends of the School’ (FOS) Forum.
- An Annual Report to Parents/Carers meeting.
- Meeting parents at open days, parent evenings, target-setting days and individual meetings as requested.
- Presenting the work of the school to local groups and associations.
- Induction events for new families.
- Inviting parents to attend a range of activities on site including assemblies, performances, celebrations and sporting events.
- Providing opportunities for parents to meet other parents at performances, information evenings, adult learning opportunities and FOS meetings.
- Using newsletters, the website and VLE to communicate general school matters.
- Communicating directly with individual parents about specific matters via email, text, letter and telephone.
- Giving access to individual pupil information via paper based and password-protected online reports.
In addition to the above, Chichester Free School will be organised into four houses each one led by a ‘Head of House’. The Head of House has a core responsibility for learning and creating a well-managed and organised environment which spans a range of subjects. Their responsibility is to ensure behaviour and respect for the learning environment meets the school’s high expectations at all times. Although each house will be encouraged to develop its own distinct identity, it must also reflect the wider school values and ethos.
The four houses are also pastoral structures designed to facilitate collaboration with parents, carers and external agencies as well as supporting pupil integration, ownership and belonging. The intention is for all children from the same family to be placed in the same house. Heads of House will be expected to find ways of working with families, offering bespoke opportunities to meet and discuss the learning and progress of their children throughout their time at the school.
