Year 11 Trip to Oxford
On Friday Mr Apsey was pleased to take 15 Year 11 students to a taster day at St Johns College, Oxford University. Amongst the 15 we welcomed Amber, Penelope and Gabrielle who are currently studying at other schools (Felpham, Ditcham Park and Bedes) but will be joining us in the Sixth Form in September. The students started the day with an introduction to the Oxford College system and how to apply. They then had a Q and A with undergraduate students, who supported them in a tutorial style session looking at the types of question they might get asked at an Oxford Interview. After working hard on their critical thinking the students were treated to lunch in the Hall at St Johns before a tour and an afternoon session in the PItt Rivers Museum where the students had to investigate the history of various artefacts in the collection and work out their uses and the cultures that may have produced them. The day inspired the students and made them appreciate that Universities such as Oxford and Cambridge (frequently ranked in the top 5 in the world) are an obtainable goal for our students.
