Year 6 Experience Science in Secondary
As part of our science topic this term, Year Six are exploring the circulatory system. With the help of Mr Cardus, Head of Science, we were able to dissect a real sheep’s heart. Using tubing and dyes we were able to see how the blood flows through the four different chambers; the left atrium, the right atrium, the left ventricle, and the right ventricle. We were surprised to see the size of a real heart and when cut, the varying thickness of the chamber walls. Did you know that the left wall of the heart is thicker? This is where the blood with oxygen is pumped through. It was fascinating to learn that the heart is a muscle (one of our strongest), many of us did not know this. Year Six have also been learning about the components of blood and have got hands-on making their own blood models to show these!
