Cross Country Challenge
We are incredibly proud to share that one of our Year 9 pupils, Lucas, received a last-minute call-up to represent Sussex at the National English Schools Cross Country Championships in Sefton Park, Liverpool.
Conditions were ideal for cross country running—sunny, cool, and with just enough mud to make spikes essential. Lucas competed against a field of 400 boys in his age group, tackling a challenging 3.2km course.
The race proved even tougher when Lucas lost a shoe early on after being clipped by another runner’s spikes. Undeterred, he continued the majority of the race with just one trainer. Despite qualifying near the back as the 7th fastest Sussex runner, Lucas showed remarkable determination, working his way through the crowded field to finish an impressive 103rd overall—and as the 5th Sussex runner.
His efforts contributed to Sussex achieving an excellent 5th place out of 46 counties.
A huge well done to Lucas—we couldn’t be prouder!
