National Cadet Week 2026

National Cadet Week

This week, we’re celebrating the history, tradition and opportunities that the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) provides to young people — and the important part Chichester Free School CCF plays in that story.

School cadet units have a history stretching back to 1859, with the modern CCF formed in 1948, bringing together Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force sections.

Today, CCF is about much more than military training. It gives young people opportunities to build confidence, develop leadership skills, learn new things, challenge themselves, make friends and enjoy adventure.

From fieldcraft and adventurous training to practical skills and teamwork, cadets gain experiences that can stay with them for life.

And you don’t have to want to join the Armed Forces to be a cadet. The confidence, skills and friendships developed through CCF can benefit young people whatever they choose to do in the future.

We’re proud that Chichester Free School CCF is part of 165+ years of tradition — while helping shape the future of cadet life.

165+ years of tradition. A modern approach. A future full of possibilities.
