Be The Change Event

We were delighted to take a group of Year 9 students to the "Stepping Up Conference" which is part of the Be the Change programme last week. This programme works with local business people to support young people on their journey and open their eyes to the world of work and the possibilities it can bring. A series of interactive and engaging experiences sheds light on the importance of individual qualities, as well as qualifications. Be the Change demonstrates to young people that they are bright and talented and that they can have successful futures.

During the day the students from a selection of local schools, spent time looking at the power of communication and working as a team. The activities encouraged them to grow by becoming positive role models and taught them that by working together as leaders they could have a positive influence and impact in their respective schools and communities.

During the afternoon session (as a surprise for the year 9 students) local primary students were invited to attend the final set of workshops, led by the Be the Change team and facilitated by the young people, who were given the perfect opportunity to put their skills into practice through this hands-on experience, looking after and leading primary students from within their local educational community. This was also a great chance for the primary school students to develop their own confidence and experience of being around secondary school students in preparation for moving into higher education.  As we are an all through school, we were able to take our Year 5 classes to join in with this wonderful event.

All the Year 5 children were an absolute credit to CFS and so, so brave - standing on a chair, speaking into a microphone about their hopes and dreams for the future, in front of a packed conference room of Year 9s and adults.  Lily absolutely shone when she said to the room ‘why be the second Ariana Grande or the third Justin Bieber, when you can be the first you.  I am the first Lily Farkas-Claxton.’  Such an inspirational young lady.
