Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a personal development programme for young people between the ages of 14 and 25. Chichester Free School supports the Scheme and provides support and training as part of its enrichment programme for any students who wish to participate.
There are three levels of Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze can be undertaken from year 9, Silver from year 10 and Gold in the Sixth form.
At each level there are four sections: Service, Expeditions, Skills and Physical Recreation. At Gold there is a fifth section, the residential Project. Activities in each Section complement each other and provide a balanced programme reflecting different aspects of young peoples development. It is a fun and rewarding journey where the young people grow in confidence and become more independent. Achieving a DofE Award opens doors to education and employment opportunities for any young person. Volunteer, get fit, learn, go on expeditions… it’s one amazing adventure after another that they’ll never forget.
Further details of the Award can be found on the Award’s website at http://www.dofe.org
Mr Apsey has been involved in delivering the award for over 15 years, is a qualified mountain leader and now co-ordinates the Award for the school. Please email him if you have any questions about doing your DofE at the school.
